“It was a gift,” the Friday Night Lights alum gushed at at PaleyFest in 2015 when asked about working with Dunst. “I loved Kirsten’s work for a long time, and I was really excited once I’d met her, and she’s a great person, and we’re both actors that just … have fun with the material.”
Dunst and Plemons were first spotted together off set in 2016. A year later, the Breaking Bad star popped the question.
“It’s good. It’s so fun. I never thought I would be that person who had a Pinterest board,” the actress said on Live With Kelly and Ryan about wedding planning in 2017. “And because we created it together from the beginning it’s a really nice thing to do together. It’s going to be so personal and fun. We are having a good time.”

“Aside from the brilliant actor you are, I have also had the even greater pleasure of getting to know you as a person outside of work — KiKi or Keeks,” Plemons gushed in his speech at the August 2019 ceremony. “Seeing the kind of mother and wife, daughter, sister, friend and cohort you are is why I and all of your friends and everyone else are here today and why we all love you.”
While Dunst clarified at the time that the pair weren’t hitched yet, a rep for the actress confirmed to Page Six in July 2022 that they had tied the knot. The couple also quietly welcomed their second child in April 2021.

The twosome met on the set of Fargo season 2.
Two months after Us confirmed Dunst and Hedlund’s split, the Bring It On star was spotted kissing Plemons.
Us broke the news in December 2017 that the actress was pregnant with their first child. Dunst confirmed the news in a spread for Rodarte’s Fall-Winter 2018 portrait series.
The On Becoming a God in Central Florida star opened up about wedding planning in August 2019.
“We’re definitely going to have a wedding eventually, but probably [a] small [ceremony] at home or something, like, really intimate, not a big wedding,” Dunst told Us and other reporters at the time. “It’s a priority but you know how life is. You’ve got other little things. So it has to be a good time when we can all have fun.”
While the couple sparked reports that they secret tied the knot when they referred to each other as “husband” and “wife” during at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in August 2019, Dunst later cleared up the speculation.
“Fiancé, we’re not married yet,” she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in September 2019.
While detailing their time in lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic, Dunst revealed that she was staying in Australia with her fiancé and their son. “We wanted to get out of the city, out of Auckland, so we rented a house for our son to have some grass to run around on,” she told the Los Angeles Times in June. “There’s horses around here. And we have two old cats living with us, one of whom, Sid, brings us a mouse every night. … Yesterday, we let [Ennis] be naked all day and he’d pee outside in the grass. He thought it was so funny.”
The often-private couple dished on the early days of their romance in a candid interview with The New York Times, published in September. “I knew that she would be in my life for a long time,” Plemons said, recalling when he met Dunst on the set of season 2 of Fargo. The Melancholia star, for her part, raved over her fiancé’s work ethic. “He works so hard at what he does. He takes everything very seriously and embeds himself very deeply,” she told the Times.
Dunst announced her pregnancy via W magazine, showing her budding belly in a lacy white dress.
Dunst was spotted holding a baby carrier in photographs obtained by the Daily Mail, confirming the pair had quietly welcomed their second child. Plemons later revealed that their son James was born in April of that year.
Dunst shared an adorable video of herself goofing around with Plemons while filming Fargo in 2015, before they started their romance. “Fargo times were fun times,” she captioned the clip, which showed the duo bursting into laughter while recording a Dubsmash.
“I would marry him tomorrow,” Dunst told The Sunday Times of her and Plemons’ wedding plans. “We want a proper wedding, we just haven’t had the time. And I wanted to have fun at my wedding and not pay for everyone else to celebrate while I am pregnant and waddling down the aisle.”
“He’s my favorite actor,” Dunst joked of Plemons during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “I’ve made children with him, so I really, really like him a lot.”
The actress, who met her fiancé on the set of Fargo in 2015, noted that their work is what initially brought them together. “We kind of fell in love creatively first and fell in love as actors. We got together after [Fargo] … I just knew he was awesome and that we were about to work together,” she continued. “I watched all of Friday Night Lights for the first time. We were cold in Calgary, and there wasn’t much to do so I went on a Jesse Plemons [binge]. [But] I have not seen [Breaking Bad] and I feel weird about it. That’s the last thing he wants to watch with me.”
After teaming up with her fiancé on the Netflix film The Power of the Dog, Dunst was already thinking about a follow-up. “We actually talked to [Power of the Dog producer] Tanya Seghatchian about what Jesse and I should do next,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “We have some ideas, and Jesse and I definitely want [to] do another project. He’s my favorite actor to work with.”
Plemons later returned the compliment. “She’s so, so incredible,” he said during an appearance on CBS Mornings.
Dunst shared a waltz with her fiancé in their movie The Power of the Dog, but it wasn’t as easy as it looked.
The former child star told The Cut that she “felt like it’s such a delicate scene that you have to try hard not to make it too mushy or corny.” Luckily, she was working with her favorite actor.
“To do a scene with Jesse, I honestly just had to look at him and the beauty of the way he says that line, ‘It’s just nice not to be alone,’” she gushed. “I was just like, ‘Wow, I better step it up.’ Because he’s so good; I just was so moved by it.”
After the release of their movie The Power of the Dog, a source told Us that working together again had made the couple’s relationship “even stronger” than it already was. “They love to spend as much time together as possible,” the insider added, noting that “all of Kirsten’s friends love” her partner. “He is very different from every guy she’s ever dated,” the source continued. “Kirsten used to be in some more dramatic and toxic type of relationships, but Jesse is different. He’s more quiet, supportive and really lets Kirsten shine.”
The couple each earned their first Oscar nominations for their work in The Power of the Dog, which earned 12 nods in total. “To be honored by the Academy is a truly humbling experience,” Dunst told Us in a statement at the time. “For both Jesse and I to get our first nominations together is beyond our wildest dreams. Congratulations to [director] Jane [Campion], Benedict [Cumberbatch], Kodi [Smit-McPhee] and Jesse on their nominations and the entire cast and crew of The Power of the Dog. Working on this film was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I’m forever grateful for Jane trusting me to bring Rose’s story to life. Thank you to the Academy for recognizing our work and for putting me amongst such a remarkable group of actresses.”
“We have to get married at this point. It’s ridiculous. We just haven’t planned a wedding,” Dunst told the Los Angeles Times, citing the COVID-19 pandemic and the birth of the couple’s second child as reasons they haven’t tied the knot yet. “I didn’t want to be pregnant, get married, have a party and not be able to have fun with everybody.”
Dunst revealed on the Oscars red carpet that she “screamed” when she found out her fiancé, Plemons, had been nominated for the first time. The duo gushed that their two children — Ennis and James — were back home in Atlanta at a neighbor’s “toddlers’ Oscar party.”
When Plemons referred to Dunst as his “wife” at the 2022 Oscars, many wondered if the pair secretly tied the knot. However, the couple previously explained that they use the terms as nicknames.
“We call each other husband and wife. But we have to get married at this point. It’s ridiculous,” Dunst joked to the Los Angeles Times in February 2021. “We just haven’t planned a wedding.” March 2022 The couple’s sons were not in attendance at the 2022 Oscars — they were having their own “toddler Oscars party,” Dunst revealed on the red carpet. “The girls next door invited them over, and so they’re all representing us there.”

The duo exchanged vows after six years together. “I can just confirm they got married,” a rep for Dunst told Page Six. “No other details will be given.”
The couple posed together on the red carpet for the premiere of Plemons’ HBO miniseries Love & Death. While Dunst doesn’t star opposite her husband on the true crime project — based on the murder of Texas housewife Betty Gore — the two always lean on each other when it comes to career decisions, whether they’re working alongside each other or on separate projects.
“I respect her opinion so much, and so I’m always curious to know what she thinks,” Plemons told Entertainment Weekly about the Virgin Suicides actress. “She’s very, very smart and just has such great instincts and taste. I would say almost everything, we’re talking it out with each other.”
